winter adventure: vermont with 19 lovely ladies.
You know what I miss about being between the ages of 10-17? Slumber parties. Time spent in pink pajamas with girlfriends. Brushing each other’s hair. Dancing like maniacs to pop songs. Laughing hysterically until breathing becomes almost impossible. Being with a group of ladies you love and being totally real with them is not only fun, but a reminder that true self-expression in the presence of others is incredibly liberating and nourishing.
I was lucky enough to relive this childhood tradition with 19 amazing women this past weekend up in Vermont. Yup, 19. These ladies are super power entrepreneurs, change-makers, world-travelers, super stars, beautiful, soulful, authentic, fun, funny, and brilliant to the core. I could go on and on.
The fun commenced with a ride up north from the city. Jackie, Jacky, Michelle, and I. And a pit stop at the Vermont Country Store. Let me just tell you, this place was like walking into an old-fashioned general store. Chocolate and sweet treats in big glass jars. Flannel nightgowns. Cheese dips, pretzels. And knickknacks of every kind. We probably spent an hour in there collecting the necessities and sampling everything.
Shortly after our mini-adventure, we arrived at Good Commons–the retreat house that would be our home for the next 3 days. Hugs were given with excitement upon walking through the door with a chorus of “Yayyyyy” and “Hiiiiii.” I immediately felt at home. As I explored, I noticed a big room for yoga, a hip private chef to cook every meal, and the sweetest country decor in every single room. So dreamy.
That evening I met new faces, and put names with faces, and smiled at even more beautiful familiar faces over a delicious dinner and red wine. The best part followed, though. We sat in a circle and shared why each of us decided to come, and what kind of support we were hoping for while there. I can’t even tell you how beautiful it is for people to just be real–like totally honest about what’s going on in their lives–and then be met with serious love on the other end. It’s like the best thing on earth because absolutely everyone is going through something and deserves that kind of presence from each other.
Each day was spent lounging in front of the fireplace, coaching each other through work-related, love-related, life-related challenges, braiding each other’s hair, taking long walks outside in the snow, skiing, sleeping, dancing, hot-tubbing, singing, playing, and eating the most delicious food.
It was the ultimate adult slumber party. No drama. No fighting. No immaturity. Just love, kindness, authenticity, and ease. I left feeling so connected with people I admire and more importantly, having made new, amazing friends.
Thank you Michelle Goldblum & Rachel Tenenbaum for organizing the most amazing winter getaway ever. I heart you both.
