some “juicy” photos.
For the past month, I’ve been consulting for an awesome start-up called Farmivore. They offer a subscription service that makes juicing fruits and veggies so much easier—think Blue Apron, but with fresh organic produce and juice recipes delivered straight to your door each week. All you have to do is open up the box, give the ingredients a little rinse, and start juicing. So brilliant, right?
As someone who’s had the pleasure of testing out their juice kits, I can honestly tell you their recipes are incredibly unique and delicious. My favorite so far has been their Autumn Glow with parsnip, d’anjou pear, carrot, and lime. Who would think to juice a parsnip? Not me. But it’s so creamy and delicious. Ray–one of the co-founders–is the mastermind behind all these creative concoctions. She not only picks ingredients that are in season, but also makes sure that every fruit and veggie combination tastes really good. That takes SO much guess work out of the whole juicing process. It’s the absolute worst to buy a seemingly good mix of veggies only to wind up with something brown that tastes like dirt. I dig Farmivore because you throw the perfectly portioned produce into your juicer and it just comes out tasting awesome. Give them a try if you’re a juice fan–you won’t regret it 🙂
So what am I working with them on? Lots of awesome marketing initiatives to help them in this initial phase of growth. But most recently, I offered up my amateur photography skills so they had a more diverse library of product shots. On Friday, I arrived at their warehouse with my camera, some off-white burlap cloth, a chalk board, and mason jars–I had a vision, naturally. Ray juiced lots of recipes, and I “styled” kale leaves, lemons, purple cauliflower, and more over the course of 4 hours, snapping nearly 1,000 photos. It was a ton of fun to flex my “food styling” muscle and I am so pleased with the results. It may be a hobby, but I have such a love for taking pictures and it was so rewarding to take it to a professional level. Woohoo!
Here are some of my favorites.
