should you hire a coach in 2015? here’s the scoop.

hire a coach?

These days it seems everyone is a certified coach–Health Coach, Life Coach, Business Coach, Relationship Coach, Spiritual Coach, Sexuality Coach–you name it, there’s one for that particular area of life. More and more people are drawn to helping others feel happier, healthier, and more satisfied in their bodies, relationships, and careers. And more and more people are drawn to coaches because the world of traditional medicine and psychotherapy doesn’t always seem to offer a holistic a approach that gets them the results they’re after.

2007 was the year I discovered the world of coaching. I was working as a Sales Assistant at Harper’s Bazaar and was feeling drained by the drama that often comes along with being in the fashion industry. I wasn’t happy and yearned to do work that actually made a difference in people’s lives.

Soon an article about life coaching landed on my computer screen and I felt an OMG, this is what I’ve been looking for lift in my heart. Nothing sounded better to me than helping others gain more clarity and happiness in their lives. And at age 24, I was pretty certain that was what I was meant to do. I loved nothing more than listening wholeheartedly as my friends disclosed their inner struggles, and then being able to offer advice that would make them feel better.

However, I couldn’t afford to invest in the training at the time. So I left the fashion world for the non-profit world. The move was a relief and it felt wonderful to be doing work that was of service to others. Yet, I still felt like something was missing; I struggled with self-confidence and had the feeling I wasn’t quite on the right track.

Serendipitously, a life coach landed in my workspace and I wound up hiring her to help me sift through all of the worries, fears, and doubts in my head. Our 6 month coaching relationship allowed me to gain a whole new sense of self-awareness and power. Most of all, it was an outlet to express all of the thoughts in a nonjudgmental space. Having the freedom to just say anything and everything I was thinking was liberating!

In 2010, I stumbled upon the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s Health Coach Training Program and just KNEW this was it–I was meant to be a coach that helped others eat better and live better. I enrolled; within a year I was certified; and I started working with clients right away.

I helped my first client discover she was gluten-intolerant and as she removed bread and pasta from her diet, the bloating and digestive discomfort she had been experiencing for years disappeared.

I helped another discover how to prevent her migraine headaches and also feel empowered to go back to school to become a nurse–her dream career.

Most recently, I helped one regain a natural period after about a decade of being on birth control and develop awareness around the importance of eating mindfully, which has helped her lose weight.

A coach is someone you hire because you are tired of feeling unhealthy, unhappy, and uncertain. You crave a life full of joy. You yearn to live in a body you love. You dream of creating a business that excites you everyday. Hiring someone who is dedicated to your journey and your goals is what enables you to make changes and create an actionable plan to really get where you want to go.

If you choose a good coach–one with experience, focus, and a deep commitment to your goals–you will absolutely see results and experience shifts both mentally and physically. The Huffington Post recently published an article entitled 10 Simple Action Steps to Achieve Massive Success in 2015. Tip #3 is to invest in a coach.

This is probably the most impactful decision you can make. Getting a coach to work with you is going to create massive change and momentum in your life. This could be a business coach, relationship coach, health coach  –  whichever area you’re looking to get results in, investing in a coach will get it done. Don’t be afraid to pay a premium for a premium coach. You pay for what you get, and a premium coach will deliver premium results in your life.
