quick tip: how to create a sexy opt-in offer.
If there’s one mistake I see newbie entrepreneurs making, it’s this: launching their websites with weak opt-in offers.
Most of them say something like…
- Sign up for weekly inspiration!
- Never miss a blog post!
- Subscribe to my newsletter!
- Join my tribe!
And while they are all well-intentioned, simple, and sweet, they are missing something really important: a clear value for the customer. What’s in it for them? What’s unique about that newsletter or inspiration they can’t live without?
These days, we’re all becoming more selective about whose lists we subscribe to. And if you think about it, you likely only subscribe to someone’s list for a very specific reason.
Perhaps you get all of your sugar-free dessert recipes from an amazing chef, or your weekly workouts from a fitness expert, or your social media growth tips from a marketing whiz.
When it comes to creating an opt-in, it’s best to move away from the “subscribe to my newsletter” angle and give your visitors a very specific gift that is going to address a problem they are dealing with right now; a resource that they can immediately download, devour, and gain something from.
Doing this will not only ensure that your email list grows, but also that your subscribers start to really respect and value what you’re all about. Not only that, but they’ll be excited to continue getting free advice and inspiration from you every week.
See how that is so much more powerful than a generic opt-in offer?
Now, if you’re someone who has a generic offer, don’t worry! This is an easy AND fun fix. And I promise it will be worth your while to put in the work to adjust it.
Here are 4 essential things to keep in mind as you create yours.
- Know your audience. What is the number one thing your audience is struggling with right now? Is it losing weight? Is it to reducing stress? Is it switching to a more fulfilling career? Is it simple cooking tips? What’s going to catch their eye?
- Address their problem. Once you’ve identified your audience’s core issue and desire, think of 1-3 tips or recommendations that would help them reach their goal. Now, you definitely shouldn’t reveal your entire coaching method or collection of self-care tips. This is only a teaser so they can get a taste of your process and program, so share the ones you consider most important.
- Make the solution generous. If your opt-in makes a big promise like, 3 Ways to Reduce Stress in 5 Minutes, the three tips you offer should be not only detailed, but also effective. You can create a 1-page guide, a 3-page e-book, or a 10-minute video that is easy for them to access over and over again. Remember, you want this to feel really valuable so do your best to make it thoughtful and visually appealing.
- Align it with your brand’s mission. While it’s important that your opt-in captures the attention of your target audience, it’s also important that it aligns with your brand. If your brand is all about mindfulness, then mindfulness should be infused into that opt-in too. If it’s all about speed and efficiency, that should be wrapped into each suggestion.
Once you’ve created your opt-in gift, the next step is creating copy that is compelling enough for them to enter their email address and press submit. So again, keep their core desire in mind and write a succinct statement that speaks to the problem and how you can solve it. Make that offer irresistible!
