how to create a multi-passion business.

It might be a Gemini thing, but I’ve always been someone with a million interests.

Growing up, I went from having an obsession with painting and art class to pursuing piano lessons and having a sweet little stint with the clarinet.

In high school, I got really into sports and joined a traveling soccer team, and then went on to fall madly in love with lacrosse.

Not to mention, I had a clothing and shoe obsession and loved decorating my bedroom, writing in my journal, and taking pictures.

And it wasn’t until later on, that health and wellness became a mega passion of mine as well.

All things considered, it should come as no surprise that my career had it’s fair share of twists and turns (you can check that out over here).

I still dabble in lots of things because life is much more fun that way. But what I’ve learned is that when it comes to creating a business, you don’t have to just choose one of your talents.

You can distill multiple passions into one beautiful brand.

Like many people, in the beginning, I felt that I had to separate all of the things I loved to do. I was a health coach with a marketing background, who also happened to love writing and taking pictures.

And I thought I had to separate my health coaching practice from the creative stuff. It was the logical thing to do.

Yet, after a few discussions with friends and colleagues, I realized all of these things were part of ME.

And for that reason, there had to be a way to create a personal brand that offers them in all in one place. The crux was: how do I bring it together so that it all makes sense?

Because in order to sell something, a brand’s message and services need to share a common thread so that people understand what it stands for, and what it has to offer.

With this in mind, I took a step back and I looked at all of my interests: health coaching, copywriting, and photography. What did they all have in common?

And then it hit me: wellness.

I had a love for not only helping others be well, but also for helping other wellness entrepreneurs and businesses create their brands.

This aha moment was huge for me because while I didn’t see many entrepreneurs doing the same thing, it was what felt oh so right.

So, I scrapped the two separate websites and I created one that brought all three services together under the Blair Badenhop business umbrella.

Not only did it make sense, but it was also a decision that allowed my business to evolve into what it is today: a creative services destination for wellness entrepreneurs.

Sans health coaching—after a few years, it became clear that this was something I needed to drop. And it was easy to do because my brand was built on a bigger message: co-creation.

I’m sharing this whole story with you because if you’re someone with multiple passions, there is a way to bring them all together too without sacrificing the integrity and clarity of your brand.

If you feel a little bit lost on how to do this, here’s what I recommend.

  1. Figure out what they have in common. Just like I did, take a step back and figure out how all of your passions and interests are related.
  2. Decide what your brand stands for. This means what is the bigger message and mission behind what you do with all of these things. For mine, it’s co-creation, which is the simple act of working 1-1 to help bring someone’s greatest business vision to life.
  3. Pick your audience. Who is the type of person who needs everything you have to offer? Or are there multiple audiences?
  4. Craft your message. Write down what your brand’s mission is and create a few taglines that embody that mission while keeping your target audience in mind.

  1. Omg Blair!! You’ve been reading my mind haven’t you?? 😉
I’ve been climbing (well, more like staring) the walls trying to figure out how the heck to actually combine my passions. In 4 steps, you’ve helped give me some clarity. I had created two websites; two Instagram accounts; and was going to create 2 business FB pages…when I just got to the point I couldn’t go it anymore. Just this past Thursday night, I posted on my original IG page I was tired of compartmentalizing my life (https://instagram.com/p/BTsT9ublD0M/). I have so many passions…I was afraid I’d have to have a business & a life super segmented. But, I see now I don’t have to. Thank you for this. I realize I’ve been searching for things externally to define me & my business & my brand…when all it takes is just shifting my focus internally to come up with something beautiful! Sending you so much love & blessings tonight. I look forward to receiving your emails in my inbox & reading your posts on IG. I’m excited for your new service….what a cool idea (and one I’ll probably use as my business unfolds ❤️)
