1 big lesson from NYT bestselling author, Anita Moorjani.
In late 2016, I was virtually introduced to New York Times bestselling author and international speaker, Anita Moorjani; a strong, sweet, magical woman with an incredible story. A story so amazing that Wayne Dyer himself insisted she write a book about it.
And that she did.
If you haven’t heard of Dying to Be Me, you must get your hands on it ASAP. Not only because it’s a book you’ll lose yourself in, but because it’s a true story. One that intricately details Anita’s near death experience.
Anita and I were put in touch because she was in the process updating her brand and needed a copywriter to create the content for her new website. To say I was starstruck/1000% yes about working with her would be an understatement.
Not because she’s a 2x author, but because you can feel how loving and accepting she is right off the bat. She has a kindness about her that’s hard to describe; it’s an energy you want to wrap yourself in because it’s so pure, cozy, and real.
As I began diving into our work together, I immediately read her book so that I could understand her experience and her voice on a deeper level. And while I knew her story would be one I greatly admired, I didn’t realize how much I would learn.
You see, when Anita was 42 years old, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. And after 4 years of battling this terrible disease, she fell into a coma. As she was rushed to the hospital, her organs began to shut down, and doctors’ gave her less than 24 hours to live.
Her body was riddled with tumors the size of lemons, her skin had developed lesions, and her lungs were filled with fluid; there was really no way she could of survived it. However, while all of this was taking place, Anita felt her consciousness shift. She became the witness to her body failing, to her family’s sadness, to the doctors rushing to help her as much as they could, and to something bigger than herself.
In her book, she describes this experience as “becoming one with everything that is.” She could sense and see everything without worry. In fact, she felt free. There wasn’t any more pain, stress, or concern. And as she drifted into a more expanded realm of consciousness, she learned a very profound lesson:
“Heaven isn’t a place; it’s a state of being.”
Whoa, right?!
Surrounded by loved ones that had passed on, Anita discovered that the only purpose anyone of us has on planet earth is to be fully ourselves. To honor our desires, pursue our passions, and speak our truths. Because as we step into joy instead of suffering, we help heal the world.
We’re all meant to do what we love because when everyone on this planet feels fulfilled and deeply connected to who they are, there isn’t room for as much suffering, misunderstanding, and turmoil.
Now, I’m not doing the lesson justice, so please read it for yourself. But the most amazing part of Anita’s journey is that she was told that if she decided to return to her body, her cancer would heal quickly. After some deliberation, Anita decided to return and within weeks was completely cancer-free. To the amazement of her doctors, her body healed at a record pace; something they had never experienced before.
Anita’s story brought me so much peace of mind. Becuase I think underneath all fear lies the fear of death. Because let’s be real, that’s scary. And falling sick is something we all try to avoid, especially in the wellness industry. We want to live, full, vibrant lives. Not to suffer. But Anita’s story teaches us that it’s all going to be ok no matter what happens.
I also felt that my belief that we all deserve to live out our greatest dreams was 100% confirmed. Ever since I was a young girl, I knew that the only way I’d be good at something was if I enjoyed it. And I think that’s really the truth for most people. When we are able to create from a place of total joy, love, and passion, new ideas are born, revolutionary experiences are created, and we live life with fuller hearts.
This is what we all deserve. Yet, so many of us don’t go after what we want because we’re afraid of …
- Not being good enough, ready enough, or smart enough
- Being judged, criticized, or shamed
- Failing and making major mistakes
- And so much more
We back those fears up every day by not taking action towards what lights us up. As Anita would say, it’s our duty to be ourselves, to be who we really are and share that openly with the world no matter what.
Because who we really are is pure love, and when we can deeply connect with that, life begins to feel a little bit like heaven.
I created the Your Wellness Brand course because I want people to realize that their greatest asset is their “you-ness,” themselves fully expressed. And when they do the work to tap into that—in order to pursue their dreams, their own business, and their greatest life vision—they make the world a better place.
You see, we have the desire to do good, not only because it matters to us, but because it matters to the world. It’s time for all of us to step into being who we want to be NOW by doing what we love and by being love.
Your Wellness Brand is an 8-week video training program designed for health coaches who want to do work they love, but who also feel held back by feelings of overwhelm, lack of clarity, and fear.
