the lady bosses behind crop tops & kale.
I have a really vivid memory as a teenager walking around my backyard with an old manual Canon. I took pictures of the trees, zoomed in on the flowers, and felt so confident capturing tiny little moments I found beautiful. It was just fun. Never did I imagine I could make a living being a photographer, let alone someone people wanted to work with. But here I am, taking photos of beautiful people doing beautiful things in the world. #epicallygrateful
Over the past month, I realized that I barely share my photography work with ANYONE. I don’t post about it on social media, and I don’t write about it on my blog. And if I want this passion of mine to continue to be useful to others, I have to share it.
That’s why starting right now, I’ll be showcasing one photo shoot per month and giving you a peek inside the time I spend with men and women with passion and purpose.
Today’s feature is with the ladies behind Crop Tops & Kale, a lifestyle blog dedicated to inspiring women to simplify their lives in order to feel better in their bodies. Dana Barron and Bridget Shannon are very special women. Not only is Dana one of my best friends, but she is eternally passionate about helping women end the battle with their bodies. She’s an amazing writer and is also one of the funniest humans I know. And Miss Bridget and I worked together at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She is a total fashionista with a great heart and is an epic social media expert.
Because these two are such a joy to hang with, our photo shoots are always filled with laughs. For this particular shoot, they were given product to feature on their blog–these beautiful silk blouses. So we picked a few lifestyle-y type spots near my apartment on the Upper West Side and made it look like a girls’ day. I think we succeeded even though it was epically hot out and we were all sweating bullets!
When I work with my clients in this capacity, the key is helping them relax, smile, and feel like themselves. Being photographed can be super uncomfortable and intimidating. So a little laughter and lightness helps ensure we capture their true essence–that beautiful, natural, authentic look we all know and love once it’s captured by a camera.
That’s my goal with every shoot–to make people feel like themselves.
