adventures in aerial yoga.

_MG_2230On Saturday, me and two lovely ladies (my friends Maria and Lauren)  were led in a playful, light and deepening aerial yoga class at Om Factory. I arrived early to make sure we were all set and of course to take some pictures of the studio. My friends got there at 9:45 a.m. and were super jazzed to try this unique class for the first time. We had the whole place to ourselves and the three of us got awesome treatment from Kat, our bubbly, sweet instructor. She was so kind and intent on us having a blast. We started out by getting familiar with the stretchy smooth fabric hanging from the ceiling, and each played around with our very own. It comes down from the ceiling like a loop so that you can safely step in, flip around, wind yourself up, and hang in it—so awesome!

The hour and fifteen minutes consisted of using this amazing prop to deepen our stretches in regular yoga poses like down dog, and intensify our core work in plank and lots of leg lifting. My abs were burning immediately!!! And then we got to the acrobatics of aerial yoga which included flips, hanging upside down, hanging sideways with one leg up and one leg down, and ultimately ending in Savasana. This wasn’t your usual Savasana of course. Since the fabric is so full, you can stretch it out like a hammock and lie down fully supported. You feel like you’re wrapped up in a blanket, in a cocoon of relaxation.

All of the upside down poses and very little contact with the floor left all of us feeling a bit ungrounded, after all, we spent a lot of time up in the air! But the deep stretches, decompression of the spine, and the swinging was so necessary and so much fun. It was such a great way to start a Saturday and I was so thrilled to bring us together to have a unique experience. Life should be fun and full of amazing adventures, big and small. This is just the beginning of being the creator of unique, expansive events with people who’d like to join me! If you’d like to be invited to my next adventure, please email me at [email protected] and I’ll put you on the mailing list.
